English Garden, Portola Valley
This private home, nestled among the redwood and eucalyptus trees of Portola Valley, offered a panoramic bay view from the west, but lacked a charming outdoor space on the eastern side. I designed this fountain, which welcomes visitors at the eastern entrance, to peacefully burble over simple and lush grasses, a delightful contrast to the dusty landscape. The classical shape of the fountain and Old European style cobblestones of the driveway evoke the resident's English homeland. Two stone patios with pergolas, benches, and wrought iron railing offer inviting spaces on the steep southern slope of the property.
